OUR STORY

Parole4Maine is a diverse team of Maine citizens who see how the current prison system falls short of protecting our communities and who believe deeply in the human capacity for change. We believe that an earned path to reintegration will make our communities safer and reduce the costs of recidivism.

Parole will provide a supportive process of reintegration for families and communities. Specifically, Maine should have a parole system that is operated by a diverse set of professionals and is focused on reducing harm and increasing public safety through evidence-based practices.

OUR APPROACH

Our approach is to amplify the voice and will of the people. Since we live in a democracy, Parole4Maine approaches this work as a group of citizens working to uplift the voices of other citizens who haven’t yet been able to get our public officials to open their ears and use their positions to reflect the will of the people.

The vast majority of Mainers have either been incarcerated themselves or know someone who has. Criminal legal reform is an issue that directly affects us all and can serve to address some of the economic fallout of poor leadership and a devastating pandemic. This is to say nothing of the ability of parole to reflect Mainers’ general belief in the right to redemption for our loved ones. Fundamentally, our approach is to extend that love to those we don’t know yet.
